A total of 5 units were built, that were used between Zürich and Amsterdam on the Rhine route and between Amsterdam and Paris. Later the class RAm trains were also used on the route from Munich to Zürich, where one of the trains was involved in an accident on this Allgäu route near Aitrang. The remaining four trains were finally sold to Canada, where they were in service a few more years as the “Northlander”. One unit, minus its powered end car, returned to Europe in 1999, where it is presently waiting to be restored for use as a nostalgic special excursion train.
